IZSU General Directorate increased the capacity of the Torbalı Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, which serves the district to prevent environmental pollution in the Küçük Menderes Basin and protect the basin, by about 3 times, from 21 thousand cubic meters to 57 thousand cubic meters per day. With an investment of 450 million liras, the plant, which was built with the population of 2047 in mind, will be commissioned starting next month. The plant, which will be inaugurated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay, will be the second largest capacity wastewater treatment plant in Izmir after Çiğli Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. Torbalı Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant is the only plant in Izmir that treats both domestic and industrial wastewater at the same time.

Industrial wastes will also be treated
Stating that the final preparations are being made to commission the second stage of the Torbalı Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, Önder Kızılaslan, Director of Küçük Menderes Facilities Branch of İZSU General Directorate Operations 2nd Regional Department, said, “We have completed our work to prevent environmental pollution in the Küçük Menderes Basin and to make the cleanliness of the basin sustainable. With its new capacity, the plant will treat the wastewater of approximately 300 thousand people. Along with domestic wastes, industrial wastewater, which is directly discharged into Fetrek Stream and is the most important source of pollution in the Küçük Menderes River, will also be treated. Torbalı settlements will have a cleaner environment.  We continue our work with the goal of a clean and sustainable environment.”
